Québec City, Québec

Québec City is a great place to visit with kids. The old city is like a little slice of Europe right here in North America!

Below you’ll find plenty of ideas for your own trip, including:

Things To Do

There is so much to do in Québec City that we barely scratched the surface, but here are some of the highlights:

Walk Around Old Québec City

We love exploring a city on foot and walking around old Québec City is like travelling back in time. We joined a tour group for a walking tour which was great. Another good option, especially with kids, would be to look for a downloadable tour that allows you to explore at your own pace. If you don’t want to tackle the hill, you can hop a ride on the funiculaire for a small fee.

Montmorency Falls

What is over 50% taller than Niagara Falls? Montmorency Falls! We enjoyed simply walking the paths to view the falls, but you can also zip-line, climb or view them by cable car at certain times in the year.

Québec Aquarium

The Québec Aquarium may not have the giant wow factor of the Aquarium in Toronto, but it was the perfect size for our family and there were far fewer crowds. The kids loved watching the fish and outdoor polar animals. The highlight was getting to touch the starfish and feed the sting rays!

Biking Trails

We didn’t bring our bikes this trip (after all the bike mishaps last trip!) and instantly regretted it. There are so many amazing bike trails in Québec City. On our next visit there, we plan to do the path along the St. Lawrence River into the old city.

Places To Eat

Cochon Dingue

We have eaten at a lot of restaurants on our travels and the kids still talk about the Cochon Dingue as being one of their all-time favourites. They still talk about the bacon-wrapped sausage appetizer. Even more amazing was that this would be one of my favourite restaurants even without kids! We ate at the Champlain location in Old Québec, but there are other locations in the area too.

Toujours Mike’s

Toujours Mike’s is a popular family restaurant with many locations throughout Québec and eastern Ontario. Lucky for us, there was a location less than five minutes away from where we were staying. Everyone enjoyed their meal and the price was reasonable.

Where We Stayed

Québec City KOA

We like to stay at a variety of places when we travel and we chose the Québec City KOA for its high rating and close proximity to the city. The kids enjoyed the usual KOA amenities, like the bounce pad and playground. There is also a new pool with little water slides that looked amazing, but wasn’t open for the season yet during our visit.

Maplewood Acres RV Park (en route)

We had stopped for one night near the eastern Ontario border on our way to Québec City. This little RV park (Maplewood Acres) was great. The kids liked the playground and mini zip-line.
